The program promise

More than writing.
More than performance.

Paper to Performance creates a supportive, high-expectation space where participants discover what they want to say, develop the craft to say it well, and build the confidence to share it.

The process values both the page and the person. Participants are never pushed to disclose more than they choose; they are invited to take meaningful creative risks with structure, care, and choice.

Foster care and adoption programs · Middle and high schools · Colleges and universities · Youth programs · Community organizations

The transformation

From something felt to something fully expressed.

Each stage builds the creative skill and personal confidence participants need for the next.

  1. 01Discover

    Find what matters

Start with a memory, question, feeling, or idea that has energy—and learn how to follow it.

  2. 02Shape

    Build the piece

Use image, rhythm, structure, detail, and point of view to turn an impulse into intentional writing.

  3. 03Strengthen

    Revise with purpose

Receive useful feedback, make thoughtful choices, and revise without losing the truth at the center.

  4. 04Share

    Own the room

Practice breath, pacing, projection, and presence—then share polished work with confidence.

Inside the experience

Six building blocks. One connected journey.

Modules flex by audience, format, and program goals while preserving the arc from discovery to presentation.

01

Story mining

Prompts and creative exercises help participants uncover moments, questions, and ideas worth exploring.

02

Writing with honesty

Participants develop an authentic point of view while making intentional choices about what and how they share.

03

Image, rhythm & voice

Writers experiment with sensory detail, sound, repetition, metaphor, and the music of language.

04

Revision as discovery

Feedback and reflection become tools for clarity, craft, and a stronger connection to the work.

05

Performance technique

Participants build skills in breath, pacing, articulation, projection, body language, and audience connection.

06

Showcase & reflection

The journey closes with supported sharing, celebration, and reflection on growth beyond the page.

What participants carry forward

Skills that travel beyond the stage.

  • Original writing shaped with intention
  • A stronger understanding of story, structure, and revision
  • Practical speaking and performance techniques
  • Greater confidence expressing personal ideas
  • Experience giving and receiving useful feedback
  • A deeper connection between creative voice and self-awareness

The most meaningful topic to me was the Spoken Word Poetry done by Sharlene. Her part in the internship showed me just how important everyone’s voices are and how they should all be heard.
